foothills
i spent a significant portion of my college days immersed in several pre-historic, text-based chat programs (then known as a "talkers"), one in particular named foothills. i blame my friend theresa for this addiction, as she got me hooked while i was recuperating from injuries i received in a car accident & had to take a quarter off from school. it started off as a good way for me to pass the time in-between my doses of vicodin, but after a while, i just couldn't stop spodding (technical talker term for one who chats on a talker).
the people that frequented talkers were mostly college-aged kids, such as myself at the time, who would telnet in and spend HOURS chatting with people from all over the damn place. it was on foothills that i adopted the screen name MaHaL. (mahal is tagalog for beloved, or dear one, which if you know me, you'd probably say wasn't a word that applied to me at all, like i care :P.) it was my alter-ego, although it was still me. it was so me, i got it tattooed on me.
anyway, while browsing archived posts on my current favorite site, the sneeze, i got all talker-nostalgic after reading this series of posts about sneeze steve playing an online game, whose character makes the same sort of crack comments my character did, back in the day. i cracked up. you will too.
and if you still remember MaHaL, and the conversations about prom dresses, goats and a BART conductor named cesar, send me an e-mail.
